Managed Security Services and Microsoft Cloud Integration
Overview
With corporate headquarters in Dublin, Noden Pharma DAC is a global pharmaceutical company focused on acquiring specialist prescription medicines across a broad range of therapeutic areas. The company directs its resources towards acquiring and optimising established medicines for international markets. They are principled and dedicated, with an experienced team offering unrivalled expertise.
Challenge
HCS were initially brought on board in 2017 to carry out a full security audit which was instructed to be carried out by Noden’s US parent company’s Audit Committee. A number of recommendations came out of our initial security audit, in particular regarding mobile device management, security policies and security managed services. In addition, their ERP system, Microsoft Great Plains, was hosted in a Microsoft Azure data centre in Canada via a managed service provider, with Noden Pharma having limited access to the tenancy. We submitted proposals to close the security gaps and to bring their ERP systems over to an Azure tenancy in Microsoft’s Northern Europe DC in Dublin.
Solution
HCS established a comprehensive set of managed services that incorporated security managed services such as patch management, regular external IP pen testing, regular vulnerability testing on their networks, and backup & DR testing to set a high bar for security. Further, full online cyber security training was rolled out to all users to improve staff firewall defences. We leveraged the inbuilt mobile device management solution, Intune, within their Microsoft licencing to take control of all desktops, laptops & mobile devices. We then migrated the ERP systems to Microsoft’s Azure cloud in Ireland and took the opportunity to incorporate Fortinet Fortigate Firewalls, both in their Dublin office and in front of their Azure infrastructure. Users now access the ERP systems using a secure SSLVPN with Multifactor Authentication. The rollout of these capabilities and the ongoing checks have dramatically increased the cyber security of Noden Pharma.
The solution that HCS delivered has significantly reduced the risk of cyber breach across our business. HCS’s expertise in combining technologies from Microsoft and Fortinet has given us a great solution that will protect the business now and into the future.
